Security [back to top]
1. Main Campus. The following systems protect the main campus:
a. Fire protection: The main campus and both residence halls are protected seven days per week, 24 hours per day by monitored fire protection system consisting of both heat and smoke detection devices. In the event of a fire, the systems automatically notify Peak Alarm Corporation and sounds audible fire alarms. Upon notification by the fire detection system, Peak Alarm dispatches the Fire Department.
b. Security protection: The main campus buildings are monitored during non-business hours by Honeywell Security Systems. The main campus buildings have both infrared motion detection and contact detection devices that report intrusions automatically. Security officers will notify the Salt Lake Police as needed. Individuals may also contact police if the situation warrants it.
c. Enforcement authority of LDS Business College personnel: College employees who are responsible for campus security have no formal working relationship with or derive any authority from State or local police agencies. These employees are responsible only to seek the aid of law enforcement personnel by reporting criminal actions and emergencies and coordinating access to the campus by police agencies. It is a condition of employment that LDS Business College employees accurately and promptly report all observed criminal actions and emergencies to the appropriate police agency.
d. LDS Business College employs security officers to patrol the campus during the hours of evening college classes. These hours are typically 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday and Fridays, and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. A security officer is also present on Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. when classes are in session. During semester breaks, no security officers are available. The security officers are off-duty police officers, but function as private security officers.
2. Training programs. The LDS Business College engages in the following programs to inform both students and employees about safety and security:
a. Personal security. Law enforcement personnel are invited to meet with residents of the North and South Residence Halls at the beginning of each academic year to address personal safety and security matters. The Head Resident in each hall holds regular hall meetings which include information regarding personal safety measures and conduct. Incidents of sexual assault are referred to the Dean of Students. Victims of sex offenses will be provided information regarding the importance of preserving evidence associated with sexual assault, assistance in the notification of law enforcement officials and the availability of counseling through LDS Social Services, in addition to other needs that may be requested by victims. Students at LDS Business College who are perpetrators of sex offenses will be expelled from the College and reported to appropriate law enforcement officials.
b. Internal communications. Periodic memoranda are circulated to LDS Business College employees reminding them of security responsibilities such as required building security measures and of the importance of observing published hours of operation of campus buildings.
