What is FERPA and how does it affect me?
FERPA is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records. If you would like LDSBC to disclose information from your educational records (including tuition amounts) to your parents or someone other than yourself, or if you would like LDSBC to be able to discuss information with you over the phone, you must submit a FERPA Release of Information Form. The form designates what type of information can be released, and to whom, by requiring the student to provide a password that can be used to verify the identity of the person(s) listed on the form. This means that the student does not need to be present at the College with a photo id as the only way to obtain specific student information.
We strongly suggest that all students consider signing this form as it will make all future interactions/discussions much easier for both you and the faculty/staff at the LDS Business College.
How do I fill out the FERPA form?
For your convenience, the form is now found online. You can locate the online form by logging onto your MYBC account. Once you are logged in, go to your Campus Personal Information > FERPA Restrictions > Edit FERPA Release Form. On this form you can designate what department is authorized to release your information and the people authorized to access that information. A few suggestions of people to add could be your parents, legal guardians, sponsors, etc. You will also be asked to provide a Passphrase that can be used to verify the identity of the person(s) listed on the form. After you create this Passphrase, communicate it to those who need access so they will have it available if/when the time comes to use it. Once you hit "save" the form will be active and employees at the college will be able to verify the Passphrase immediately.
What if I have already filled out a paper version of the FERPA form?
We suggest that you still fill out the online form because it is much easier for you to access and edit if needed. Keep in mind that the original FERPA forms are still valid and can be accessed upon request.
What if I choose not to sign the FERPA Release of Information Form?
If you choose not to submit the FERPA Release of Information Form, then LDSBC will not be able to disclose any information from your educational records to anyone other than yourself. This means that no specific information will be given over the phone, or via e-mail, and would require you to be present at the College with a photo id in order to receive any information regarding your educational records.
